Mean platelet volume in ST elevation and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction

چکیده
Platelet activation is thought to play a key pathogenetic mechanism in acute coronary syndromes. We investigated the mean platelet volume and platelet count in patients with both ST elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. Fifty two patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction and 56 patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction were enrolled in the study. Ageand gender-matched 50 healthy subjects constituted the control group. Venous blood samples for whole blood analysis were drawn on admission and analyzed by an autoanalyser. The difference in mean platelet volume was statistically significant in ST elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction patients, which was 8.7±1 and 7.9±0.7 fl (p<0.01), respectively. However, the difference in mean platelet volume between non-ST elevation myocardial infarction and control group was not significant (7.9±0.7 and 8.1±0.7 fl; p=0.52, respectively). Moreover, platelet counts of both ST elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction groups were significantly lower than the controls. Platelet counts in the ST elevation myocardial infarction and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction patients did not show any statistically significant difference. The underlying mechanism should be investigated in further studies, which may shed light on developing new therapeutic strategies for this particular acute coronary syndrome.

No-Reflow Phenomenon in Patients with ST-Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction, Treated with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Study of Predictive Factors
Introduction: No-reflow phenomenon in coronary vessels, manifested in some patients with reperfused acute myocardial infarction (MI), is associated with poor clinical and functional outcomes. Therefore, evaluation of predisposing risk factors can be helpful in risk assessment and identification of patients at higher risk. Herein, we aimed to study the predictive factors for the development of...

Introduction: No-reflow increases the complications and mortality rate of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Therefore, it is important to identify patients at a higher risk of developing no-reflow. This study aimed to systematically review the prognostic value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) to predict no-reflow. Materials and Methods:</s...
متن کاملVitamin D deficiency predicts the ST elevation type of myocardial infarction in patients with acute coronary syndrome.
According to studies, a significant association exists between the low levels of vitamin D and cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction (MI). In a prospective, case control study, 88 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) including ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and Non-STEMI were enrolled. The plasma level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D[25(OH)D] was obtained at the time ...

متن کاملElectrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is not associated with increased in-hospital adverse events in patients experiencing first non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction: A single center study
Background: There is conflicting data about prognostic implication of electrocardiographic (ECG) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with first non- ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). We aimed to examine the association of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on admission electrocardiogram with adverse outcomes in patients with NSTEMI. Methods: In the present study, ...
